The ideal intersection of 3 sets:
I know, I can and I want – NIRVANA!
How to determine the maturity of a plant in LEAN?
There are lots of options, I like to use this one. The audit includes many categories, whether focusing on:
„(A) skills, technical part – layout, machines“.
„(B) management“ (processes, meetings, accountability)
„(C) mindset and behavior“ (approach to change, understanding of the vision by all employees, etc.)
Each of these categories can be 0% – 100%
Continuous improvement = A B C = ideally 100%, 100%, 100%
PART A – I KNOW, I CAN
PART B – I CAN
PART C – I WANT
Imagine different scenarios where limited improvement will occur. Once one of the conditions is low, the overall result will be low.
A,B high, C low = I can, I have the authority, I can but I don’t want to.
A high,C high,B low = often workers are post-training, energized to apply the innovations, but management does not encourage them to do so.
A low, B and C high – I have the authority, I want to, but I don’t have the skills and abilities, so I make bad decisions.
That’s why it’s important to work on all 3 elements. In my opinion it can be applied to absolutely all areas of service, production.
